Regional natural park of the Ampezzo Dolomites
The regional natural park of the Ampezzo Dolomites, entirely within the town of Cortina, extends north of the town of Cortina d'Ampezzo to the border with the Trentino Alto Adige, in the natural park of Fanes, Sennes and braies, with which it forms a more naturalistic area extended from similar environmental characteristics of the total amplitude of approximately 37,000 hectares. The park covers an area of 11,200 hectares, was established on March 22, 1990 with regional law No. 21 of the veneto region. The territory of the Park includes many famous Dolomite groups: the Crystal, the Tofane, the Fanes, Col Bechei and Croda Rossa, respectively from the Val Travenanzes, Val di Fanes, Boite Valley and the Val Felizon. Some of these mountains have peaks over 3,200 metres. and enclose in the recesses of their northern slopes a few small glaciers. The valleys are narrow and spectacular natural gorges near the confluence of the commune, which is the main entrance of the Park, and is open to vast plateaux at grazing towards the highest odds. Two other these gullies are the southern limits of the area. The Park is bounded by the Valley of rio to the West and from the Falzarego Padeon. Inside the park there are nineteen tourist facilities.
